Research Projects
As drivers of innovation and technology leaders, the German Ministry of Economics and Technology and the German Ministry of Education and Research has entrusted PSI Logistics with the task of carrying out current research projects. The projects deal with "efficient vehicle utilisation through joint trip and loading space optimisation" and the "development of grid technologies for logistics companies".
Efficient Load
With the project "Efficient Load", PSI hopes to develop innovative procedures that use the intelligent coupling of loading space optimisation algorithms and trip planning optimisation algorithms to maximise vehicle usage in the transport of goods for procurement and distribution logistics. By improving vehicle usage, transport kilometres are eliminated and trips without loads are minimised, which also means that emissions are reduced. The basic principle of the project: Both procedures are used individually in practice but combining the use of these procedures can only provide local optima. Only the integrated use of loading space optimisation and trip optimisation leads to an overall optimum.
InterLogGrid
The objective of InterLogGrid is to develop and enable the use of grid technologies for logistics companies so that they can provide considerably better support for the planning and dispatching decisions and the controlling and implementation competencies in the intermodal/multilateral logistics. For this, fragmented logistics systems and the logistics processes and functions that run in these systems are mapped in a logistics grid, the D-GRID infrastructure is used as a scalable system for distributed data storage (for example, from legacy and sensor systems) and data usage (for example, for tracking and tracing), and based on that, transparently accessible, computationally intensive logistics functions are offered by service providers.
