PSI Delivers Logistics Optimisation Modules to Avon Cosmetics

Shipping Line Balance and Cartoning for Greek distribution centre

Berlin, 26 June 2013 – PSI subsidiary PSI Logistics GmbH, has been entrusted with the implementation of optimisation modules of the proven warehouse management system PSIwms in the main Greek distribution centre of the international cosmetics company Avon Products Inc.

The optimisation modules of the PSIwms warehouse management system form an integrated software solution for cost reduction and increased efficiency for intra-logistic processes in varying layouts. With the new implementation in Greece, Avon takes advantage of the PSI optimisation modules in the distribution centres of 23 national branches worldwide. In the Greek distribution centre of the international cosmetics company, the emphasis is in particular on the functional scopes for Shipping Line Balance (SLB) and Cartoning.

With SLB, Avon achieves an optimal distribution of load with a corresponding reduction of process costs while considering all relevant factors such as assembling and shipping, stock transfer and replenishment. For an optimal dispatch of the cosmetic company’s campaigns, the software steers, amongst other things, the ideal assembly of the warehouse channels as well as the best-possible storage location and express-line assignment. The continuous guidance of the staff throughout all processes assures a high level of service in completing orders.

Cartoning increases the delivery rate while simultaneously maximising the productivity and minimising the shipping and packaging costs. The software determines the optimal size of cartons for specific orders, generates route and cost optimised picking instructions and thereby optimises the carton flow between the different assembling and dispatching stations. Consequently, the requirements of an optimised handling of individual orders and the requirements of a holistic process optimisation are combined in an optimal workflow result.

On the basis of its own software products, PSI AG develops and integrates complete solutions for energy management (gas, oil, electricity, heat, energy trading), production management (mining, metals, automotive, mechanical engineering, logistics) and infrastructure management for transport and safety. PSI was founded in 1969 and employs 1,600 persons worldwide.
