PSI Realizes European Registry Information Service European Commission promotes RISER innovation project

Berlin, 26 May 2004 – Under the title RISER (Registry Information Service on European Residents), an international consortium under the leadership of PSI AG is realizing the European registry information as one of the first trans-European eGovernment services. The cross-country information service allows for the uniform online access to the registries of various European countries with the highest security standards. In the future, companies and citizens will be in a position to call up one of the most frequently requested public services via the Internet, easily, securely and inexpensively. The pilot operation between Germany, Austria and Ireland is scheduled to begin as early as this summer. The European Commission is supporting RISER with about one million euros in the framework of the eTEN program.

RISER allows for a cross-country and secure eGovernment with significant business potential. The new service will be developed by an international consortium under the leadership of PSI AG with partners from Ireland, Austria, Poland as well as the Fraunhofer Institute FOKUS, Landeseinwohneramt Berlin (Berlin residents' registration office) and the Independent Centre for Privacy Protection.

In view of the growing single European market, the new service meets the needs of international financial service providers, shipping companies and eBusiness providers. RISER offers this target group a uniform access to an extremely heterogeneous registry environment and therefore reduces the complexity and costs of transnational registration questions. Technologically, RISER is based on an information server developed by PSI and the Landeseinwohneramt Berlin. RISER employs open standards such as OSCI/XMeld for secure eGovernment transactions.
